Navy SEAL Rules are the same as STARTUP Rules

Navy SEAL Rules are the same as STARTUP Rules

Alden Mills makes a bold claim in Entrepreneur Magazine’s recent article titled “The Rules for Leading a Navy SEAL Team Are the Same as Leading a Startup. I Know, I’ve Done Both.”

Since I know a few SEALS and I’ve also run my own business for over a decade, his concept intrigued me enough to check out his theory.  After reading through his article, I have to admit, Mills definitely seems to be on the right track.

He begins the article by sharing a product disaster he went through while starting up his business, and notes, “Just when everyone told me it was over — that I should get a job — was when I realized that the very leadership rules that were drilled into me in the SEAL teams were the exact ones that would help me and my fledgling startup succeed.”

Mills then provides four necessary rules for entrepreneurs to embrace as they maneuver through any start up challenges:

  1. Lead the Conversation
  2. Banish Negative Influencers
  3. Become a Master at Funneling
  4. Enjoy the Ride and Celebrate Your Team’s Success

Each rule is explained in detail and well worth your time to review by clicking here.
