How Do Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace Make the Organization Better?
Diversity in the workplace brings harmony among employees, bolstering the company’s reputation, hastening decision-making, and promoting comparative advantage.
Have you ever been part of a team where people openly chat with each other about a variety of topics while they are working until “that manager” steps into the room? “That Manager” is so hyper-focused on productivity, he/she considers all non-work conversations as useless interruptions and quickly shuts them down rather than seeing them as opportunities to create a sense of value among their staff.
A survey of 1,000 employed Americans was conducted by the Center for Talent Innovation which showed evidence that 40% of those surveyed felt physically and emotionally isolated in the workplace. According to Karyn Twaronite’s article in Harvard Business Review, “39% respondents feel the greatest sense of belonging when their colleagues check in with them, both personally and professionally. This was true across genders and age groups, with checking in being the most popular tactic for establishing a sense of belonging across all generations. By reaching out and acknowledging their employees on a personal level, companies and leaders can significantly enhance the employee experience by making their people feel valued and connected.”
How about that! A simple, “Hey there…how are you doing?” can be a powerful way to improve company culture and build value into every person’s role.
Twaronite’s article provided several additional ways you can help your staff remain engaged and feel more connected to the team. You can read them here.
