Plan for Business Growth | Extraordinary Business

Business Growth planning
When your business grows quickly, things don’t “naturally fall into place” like you might hope or think.  Many businesses actually go out of business as a result of growing too fast and not having the infrastructure to support it.  The way to avoid some (and I do mean some) of the surprises that go along with business growth is to have modeling and a process that will help you see and address some of the obstacles.

Fearless | Extraordinary Business

Noting your greatest fears and moving forward anyway.

image

Starting a new company is not for the faint of heart. As a matter of fact, many entrepreneurs including myself could probably tell you many stories that might shake you to your core if you are unfamiliar with the landscape. The risks are high, there are many unknowns, the demands can be crushing and the work endless. But people do it every day…and many do it again.

An interesting quote by Malcolm McLaren, below, speaks of being fearless of failure.

What matters is this: Being fearless of failure arms you to break the rules. In doing so, you may change the culture and just possibly, for a moment, change life itself.

Marketplace Leadership | Extraordinary Business

Can your company reach the top of the marketplace? Perhaps…but it won’t happen by accident.

imageRecently, I had an opportunity to post an article on Capture Commerce, an internet conversion company based in the Atlanta, GA area, lead by its President, Tom Shivers.  Tom’s clients have had a history of rising to top spots on Google by using his sophisticated SEO strategies.

Tom and I spoke a couple of weeks ago during which the topic of marketplace leadership came up.  Tom feels that any company can reach the top of their marketplace, and feels that part of the problem is that business owners just don’t seem to think so. Of course, I share that belief; this is the very concept behind building an extraordinary business. Many businesses enter the marketplace every day, but it is those that strive to be leaders in their market space that become successful businesses. Otherwise, you are stuck in survival mode.

From our conversation, I put together a post “Marketplace Leadership Builds an Extraordinary Business,” which you can see on Tom’s website.  Here is a link to the post. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts or feedback,.

The Bottom Line | Extraordinary Business

Despite our best (or worst) intentions, it is the results that matter

stakeholdersThere have been a lot of conversations around the country about sustainability, business practices, ethics and a lot of what some might call “secondary stakeholder” concerns.  Interestingly, there have been a number of companies that have gotten stellar reviews for excellent customer service, environmentally friendliness and other “secondary stakeholder” concerns that appear to be less visible or have less market share.

Take T-Mobile, for example.  This was the mobile phone company that multiple JD Power & Associates awards for great customer service.  Despite the accolades, they are the smallest of the giants and have to constantly change market positions in order to maintain or even gain any market share.  Shouldn’t a company that puts that much energy into providing a great product and great service be at the top of the market?  They have great intention, don’t they?

Irreprehensible| Extraordinary Business

imageThe relationship between ethics and productivity

Have you ever had someone do something to you that caused you to view that person in a completely different light?  Did you find that they lied to you?  Cheated you?  Stole from you?  Perhaps something worse?

Even if you forgive that person, do you find it easy to restore that relationship and the sense of trust that existed in the relationship prior to event?  Do you find that when that person tells you something or is around, that feeling of doubt creeps in?  Even if you manage to shake it off and step forward, when a similar circumstance arises, do you still have doubts?

Have you done this to someone else – perhaps an employee, vendor or customer?  Perhaps you called it, “what he knows won’t hurt him” or “survival of the fittest.”  How did it make you feel?  How do you think it made the people who knew about it feel?  How would you feel if your decision was made public knowledge?

Non-Conformist | Extraordinary Business

Getting ahead in business requires doing not what everyone else is doing but doing things differently

Take the road less traveled Have you ever been to an event where they gave you a check list of “stuff” that you absolutely need to do in order to “take your business to the next level?” Did they almost guarantee that you would be able to achieve whatever goals you set out for yourself by implementing their recommendations? Did they show you dozens of people and testimonials of people who used the system, followed the steps and became overnight successes?
In the words of Dr. Phil, “How did that work out for you?”
