Cyclone or a Splash? | Extraordinary Business
While for some, this might be what started a business or a marriage; for others, it could be something that started a negative chain of events that continues to present itself. As business leaders, managing those ripples is part of our responsibility. If you think about the impact the way a phone call or email is handled, and put yourself in the feet of the caller, what would a caller’s experience be when they call into your business or send you an email? Should they be prepared to wait for days for a response? Should they expect to receive a curt response, or should they expect the highest level of professionalism. I had an opportunity, last evening, to speak on a panel for the Global Institute of Enterprise Development with a number of colleagues. Much of our conversation was around marketing trends and beliefs, and how small businesses could get the greatest return on their marketing efforts. Bonnie Ross-Parker, CEO of Joy of Connecting, brought up the point that it was sometimes the smallest things, such as a name tag, that could make the difference between making a positive or a negative impression on someone. What kind of ripples are being left by your company? Are they great impressions that draw people to you? Are they big angry waves that seethe of distrust and self-service? Do you leave no impression what-so-ever? Do people forget that you were ever there? Go extraordinary. Look into your ripples. Make every experience, every connection, every touch with your organization be a predictably positive experience.
